Women Group criticizes Reported Increase in Sexual and Gender Based Violence …

BOMI COUNTY, LIBERIA-A local women’s group, Women Care Initiative, in Bomi County has decried the reported increasing wave of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Western Liberia.

ELBC Correspondent quotes the Program Manager of the group, Cyrus Cooper, as saying several minors have been allegedly raped in Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount and Bomi Counties, and seeking justice.

Mr. Cooper also referenced a case where a sixteen-year-old boy, Jefferson Folley, reportedly raped a six-year-old minor in Gbarpolu County, recently.

Our Correspondent said:” The suspect is in prison in the county awaiting trial, while the rape victim is currently undergoing treatment at the JFK Medical Center in Monrovia.

The Program Manager of the Women Care Initiative wants justice actors speedily adjudicate alleged rape cases, especially gender-based violence in those areas.
