Liberia, China to Strengthen Bilateral Trade to Diversify Agriculture Product…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia, and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen bilateral trade to diversify agricultural products and increase the overall growth of both nations.

A release issued recently quotes the Agriculture Minister, Dr. Alexander Nuetah, as describing Wednesday’s signing ceremony as a milestone, to enhance food security in Liberia.

According to the release, the MoU will last for five years with an automatic extension after the elapse of the five years.

Meanwhile, the Memorandum of Understanding is expected to also focus on human capacity development, fisheries and aquaculture, seafood production, animal husbandry, livestock, and poultry, among others.

Meanwhile, at least twenty young Liberian Extension Officers have departed the country to undergo a three-week Agricultural Technology and Management training in Beijing, China.

It followed vigorous negotiations between the Governments of Liberia and China in February, this year, to help reform the Agriculture Sector of Liberia.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Nuetah, the move signifies China’s commitment to boosting agricultural productivity and fostering sustainable development in Liberia.

Dr. Nuetah also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese Government for the training, while describing it as a specialized and tailored program for Liberia.

Meanwhile, Dr. Alexander Nuetah is urging participants of the training to utilize the opportunity for the improvement of Liberia’s Agriculture Sector.
