UNICEF, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Launch “End Polio” Campaign…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-UNICEF, in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Ministry, on Tuesday launched the “End Polio” campaign in Paynesville City.

The campaign is aimed at intensifying awareness on the education of Polio in Liberia.

UNICEF Liberia Representative, Andy Brooks, said:” Adequate awareness is critical to minimal resistance of the vaccination of children against the crippling disease.”

Mr. Brooks called for a united front amid resistance by people to respond to vaccinations in different ways.

The UNICEF Liberia Representative told journalists that the launch of the “End Polio” campaign simultaneously took place in Nigeria, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, and Sierra Leone.

Meanwhile, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, former Chelsea and Ghanaian International, Michael Essien, wants parents to take seriously the issue of polio.

Ambassador Essien said:” Polio elimination cannot be achieved without the total involvement of parents and governments across the world.”

He said if children are to be given a brighter future, their health issues must be addressed at an early stage.

Ambassador Essien called on governments and political actors to intensify the fight against polio by crafting stronger policies and investing in healthcare deliveries.

The ceremony was attended by scores of school-going kids from several high schools, health officials, and members of the diplomatic corps.
