MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has warned rice importers against inflating the Country’s staple food.
The price of rice remains at eighteen dollars and fifty cents.
Presidential Press Secretary, Kula Fofana, said:” While the Government recognizes the constraints faced by rice importers due to global issues, it also remains committed to making rice accessible and affordable.”
Madam Fofana, however, frowned on the inflation of rice prices by local vendors and promised the Government’s swift intervention in curtailing the situation.
She made the remarks following a meeting held between President Joseph Boakai and the Rice Importers Association of Liberia on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Executive Mansion.
The hike in the price of rice over the past few days raised serious concerns among citizens, thus calling for the Government of Liberia’s swift intervention.
In another development, President Joseph Boakai has urged Liberians to embrace to enhance the process of national development.
President Boakai said:” Peace and unity are crucial to sustainable growth.”
The Liberian Leader spoke on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the launch of the William R. Tolbert III, Chair for Peace Building, Conflict Resolution, Reconciliation National Healing, and Unity at the Cuttington University Graduate School in Monrovia.
The Liberian Leader said the Country can forge ahead when the citizens agree to work together in peace and unity.
President Joseph Boakai then lauded the efforts of the University for amplifying calls to spread the essence of peace through Its programs.
Meanwhile, President Boakai has reminded Liberians that peace is only sustainable when justice prevails.
He said:” Peace is more sustainable when the wounds of victims of war and conflicts are healed by the prosecution of perpetrators.”
The Liberian Leader expressed optimism that the program will serve as a platform to address issues of violence, peacebuilding, and reconciliation, among others.
President Joseph Boakai then charged Liberians to be responsible in their utterances and actions to move the Country forward.
