MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyeneh says the culture of impunity has permeated society and stalled good governance.

Justice Yuoh said: “The lack of political will and law enforcement to prosecute violators of the law promotes entrenched impunity in state governance.”

She believes that if the Liberian society must curb impunity and promote good governance, perpetrators of societal ills must be held accountable for their actions, without fear or favor.

The Chief Justice made the remarks on Friday, April 5, 2024, when she delivered a special statement at the Liberian National Bar Association 2024 Assembly opening at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (EJS) Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.

Justice Yuoh also assured of the Supreme Court’s preparedness to uphold the rule of law and denounced impunity as the surest way of building a country of responsible citizenship.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Lawyer, Cllr. Tiawon Gongloe says the legal profession is doomed if Liberians continue to accept the culture of impunity.

Cllr. Gongloe urged the citizens to choose respect for the rule of law over impunity to achieve sustainable peace, democracy, and prosperity.

He said:” Liberia is a Country of law and not men, and total disregard to the rule of law will continue to subject the society to blatant impunity.”
