Environmental Protection Agency Raises High Alert of Heavy Rainfalls…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says there is a high alert of heavy rainfalls that could cause flooding in various parts of the country.

As such, it is urging citizens to take precautionary measures to safeguard lives and properties during the prevailing critical weather event.

According to a release issued recently, the EPA said its primary concern is to safeguard public health and the environment to mitigate potential risks.

The release quotes the EPA as calling on residents in Monrovia and its environs to cease throwing dirt in the waterway.

It said disposing of waste or debris in water bodies and drainages contaminates the water and obstruct natural drainage systems, thus worsening the flooding situation.

The Environmental Protection Agency also urged against backfilling of swamp land which leads to an increased likelihood of flooding in surrounding regions.
