Liberia Electricity Corporation claims substantial progress…..

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has boasted of significant improvement in its operations, as the entity gets set to observe its 50th Anniversary, shortly.

The LEC Chief Executive Officer, Monie Captan, said:” Though the Liberian Civil War caused serious devastation to the entity’s infrastructures, the LEC Management Team has restored hope for the Country’s power generation drive.”

Addressing journalists ahead of the Corporation’s 50th Anniversary, Mr. Captan noted that the entity has accomplished much in a short period of time.

The LEC Chief Executive Officer disclosed that the Corporation is bringing into the country additional meters to mitigate the shortage problem.

According to Mr. Monie Captan, about 222-thousand customers are now connected to the LEC power grid in several counties, with more connections expected.

Meanwhile, Mr. Captan has reiterated calls for those involved in power theft to desist.

He stressed that rebuilding the LEC requires the joint effort of every Liberian and the continuous thief of power is unacceptable, adding that with the recent establishment of the Power Thief Task Force, there has been a decrease in the act and more than seventeen thousand customers have been connected to the grid.

Mr. Captan explained that President George Weah has made electricity a top priority and called on the public to support the President‘s vision.

Mr. Monie Captan noted that the Liberia Electricity Corporation is working with international partners to create more sources of electricity generation for the country.
