MONROVIA, LIBERIA – President George Weah has reassured Liberia’s commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement and other international protocols on the environment and Climate Change.

However, President Weah said Government is hoping to submit the Country’s Revised Determined Contribution to the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat before the end of the year.

President Weah made the remarks Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at the opening of a three-day national conference on the environment and climate change in Congo Town.

The Liberian Leader said the document focuses on several key areas including, forestry, agriculture, green corridors and energy among others.

President Weah said building climate reliance infrastructure and environmentally smart projects would require support from national Government and partners.

He wished the participants well as they deliberate in key issues that will derive at solutions to tackle various climate and environmental challenges.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency says Liberia is suffering from serious environmental impacts due to wetlands degradation, flooding and the pollution of water bodies and beaches.

He said those environmental challenges and the killing of wildlife are contributing factors for inconsistent weather pattern and climate change.

Prof. Tarpeh said though the challenges are not only unique to Liberia, they are undermining the Country’s effort in accomplishing the objectives of the SDGs and the national agenda.

He said the conference seeks to derive at solutions to tackle those challenges and generate endorsements from line Ministries and Agencies implementing the Revised Climate Change Action Plan.
