MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Grand Bassa County District-Five Representatives has requested the House of Representatives to cite Health Authorities, to give reasons for the shortage of medical drugs at public facilities.

According to ELBC Legislative Reporter, the health institutions include the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, the National Drug Service (NDS) and the Ministry of Health.

In a communication to Plenary Tuesday, February 16, 2021, Representative Thomas Goshua raised concern about the deteriorating condition of the Country’s Health Sector.

He said:” Public facilities are conducting tests and carrying on prescriptions, but needed drugs are being purchased outside of the facilities.”

Meanwhile, Plenary has forwarded the matter to the House Committee on Health for probe and to report to the body within two weeks.

In another development, the House of Representatives has invited the Ministry of Education to appear before the Education Committee, to explain reasons for reported delay in the Educational Cash Transfer to high school students who sat the 2020 WASSCE.

Plenary’s decision followed a communication by Bong Count District-Six Representative Moimah Briggs-Mensah.

Representative Mensah said:” The Ministry of Education and the Management of Give Direct, a USAID hired organization, began crediting the accounts of high school students, prior to WASSCE. Some students claimed to have registered and received fifty percent of the full sum of fifty United States Dollars earmarked, while others are yet to benefit.”

The Bong County District Six Lawmaker wants Plenary’s inquiry in order to establish how the fund was expended in the midst of claims from the students.

Meanwhile, the House Committee on Education is expected to report to Plenary within a week.
