Pres. Weah declares Saturday, October 24, UN Day…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has declared Saturday, October 24, 2020, as United Nations Day, to be observed today, Friday, October 23, throughout Liberia as a working holiday.

According to a Foreign Ministry release issued Thursday, October 22, 2020, President Weah called on relevant Government entities and international organizations to cooperate with the Ministry of Education, in organizing appropriate program befitting the day.

The proclamation states that Liberia, as a founding member of the UN, continues to benefit from that August Body, with particular emphasis on the UN-Mission in Liberia.

The release quotes the proclamation as saying Liberia will join other member states to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the UN under the theme: “The Future We Want, the United Nations We Need”.

According to the proclamation, the UN organization and its members have played and continue to play a critical role in rebuilding Liberia, following its civil crisis.
