3RD Session of the Nat’l Legislature extended by a week

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The 3rd Session of the 54th National Legislature has been extended by a week, beginning October 1 to October 9, 2020.

It followed the issuance of a proclamation by President George Weah on Monday, October 5, 2020.

According to a Foreign Ministry Release issued Monday, October 5, 2020, the Proclamation is in keeping with Article 32(b) of the Liberian Constitution.

Article 32(b) provides that the President shall, on his own initiative or upon receipt of a certificate signed by at least one fourth of the total membership of each house, and by proclamation, extend a regular session of the National Legislature beyond the date for adjournment or call a special or extraordinary session of that body to discuss or act upon matters of national emergency and concern.

According to the release, a certificate signed by at least one fourth of the total membership of each house was laid before the President on September 29, for the extension of the 3rd Regular Session of the 54th National Legislature to discuss and act upon national matters.
