US Gov’t denies suspended Liberia’s Passport Director entry into the United States

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The United States Government has announced Public Designation for suspended Director of Passport and Visas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Under the United States Law, Section 7031(c), officials of foreign governments with proof of involvement in significant corruption, and their immediate family members are ineligible for entry into the United States.

Last year Mr. Andrew Wonploe was charged and indicted by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County, for defrauding the Liberian Government in the tone of twenty-five-thousand United States Dollars in an alleged passport scandal.

However, all charges against him were dropped by the court in July this year.

But a recent statement released by the United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said Mr. Wonploe has been involved in significant corruption.

According to him, the action of Mr. Wonploe reduced the faith of the Liberian public in Government’s management of identification and travel documents.

At the same time, the US Government has reaffirmed its commitment to support the Government and people of Liberia in the fight against corruption.

It followed a statement released Thursday, September 10, 2020, by the US Government, denying suspended Passport Director Andrew Wonploe entry into the United States, for his alleged involvement in fraud at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The release quotes the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, as saying Mr. Wonploe has being denied for also compromising the integrity and security of the immigration processes.

Secretary Pompeo also said:” The Department of State of the United States will continue using its authorities to promote global accountability for corrupt actors.”
