Liberian gov’t Welcomes United States Gov’t’s Ban on Suspended Passport Director, Andrew Wonploe

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Government of Liberia, has welcomed the decision by the United States Government, to ban suspended Passport Director, Andrew Wonploe and his immediate family entry intothe United States.

Government’s commendation followed the issuance of a Public Designation against Mr. Wonploe Thursday, September 11, 2020 by US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, for acts of corruption.

Information Minister, Eugene Nagbe, told ELBC Thursday that the US Government had informed the Liberian Government about its decision through diplomatic channel prior to its pronouncement.

Minister Nagbe said though all charges against Mr. Wonploe were dropped by the court in July this year, the Government reserves the legal right to issue re-indictment.

Meanwhile, the Information Minister has clarified that the action taken against the suspended Passport Director does not cast a dark cloud over Government’s effort to fight corruption.

Minister Nagbe said the Liberian Government remains committed to working along with friendly Governments, including the United States to stop institutional corruption.
