SOE Officially Ends, as Army Ordered Back to the Barracks

Monrovia, Liberia – The state of emergency declared by President George Manneh Weah as part of measures to fight the Covid-19 outbreak in Liberia has officially ended.

An Executive Mansion Statement quotes President Weah as deciding against extending the SOE and has since ordered personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia to return to the Barracks.

President Weah’s order followed the end of the three weeks State of Emergency on Tuesday July 21 which was declared by the Liberia Leader three weeks ago.

President Weah said the legal basis for the continuous presence of the army in some parts of the country to assist with the fight against the Coronavirus has ended with the end of the State of Emergency.

The Liberian Chief Executive however said that the army has special logistical and human resource capabilities that could be called upon when needed.

Meanwhile, the Liberian leader has mandated Health Minister, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, and other relevant authorities to carefully utilize the public health laws as the guiding tool for curtailing the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

President Weah urged the health authorities to strictly implement the Public Health laws in order to reinforce the practice of the wearing of facemasks, social distancing, washing of hands and other health protocols.
